I refuse to apologize for my absence. When I started this blog, I gave myself permission to come and go as I needed. Well, for the moment I am back! My sewing classes were fantastic. Anyone in the Houston/Galveston area, if you want my instructors number just message me. I was able to complete multiple "levels" and have come away with a new sense of confidence. My machine no longer intimidates me and I can start a project without feeling overwhelmed. All I have to do is look back on what I have accomplished and I just GO!
Here is a brief recap of my sewing class projects. Please forgive the horrid pictures, I always forgot on the last day of the set that she would take a picture so I was NEVER prepared. :)
Level 1 - Lined Tote Bag :
It is very sad to me that I actually prepared for this photo and it still looks like this. Oh well. The bag was stunning. I scored some really great quilting fabric at a shop that was going out of business and was just waiting for a spectacular use for it. The lining is a soft black. I used this as my sewing class bag for the next couple of levels.
Level 2 - Pull-On Pajama Pants :
Aren't the monkeys great? My daughter thought they were fantastic. I don't care for the way they feel - the flannel was just not soft enough, but they were a big milestone for me. I tackled garment construction, elastic, pockets and hemming. Whew!
Level 3 - Flannel Robe :
This was probably the scariest project to start, but I knew that Barbara would not let me down. I was so impressed with what WE did here. The piping in lime green just totally made the whole thing pop...and there is a healthy amount of it here let me tell you! I am holding my certificate a little high to really see, but the pink accent facing is really great.
Level 4 - Ruffle Apron :

This was the most fun. I had never EVER attempted ruffles before and this was a great project to learn with. You can't really tell (because I made the pic small enough to disguise my hideous makeup that day) but the fabric is gingerbread men, hearts and stars for a really fantastic Christmas theme. I even bought a gingerbread Scentsy candle so I can do a Gingerbread Christmas this year.
I wish I could keep going and I might in the future. She offers some 'mini-session' as skill builders, but I will most likely not be able to do anymore full classes. We are preparing for our big move that will put me just too far away to make it practical.
Since finishing my last class, I was itching to get going on something fun. I began scouring websites, blogs and other resources for patterns and ideas. I started a project binder with formatted patterns and tutorials that I want to eventually work on. It has become a really neat way to keep myself focused. I think I'll do a blog post on it soon. I decided to work on something neat for a newly found friend that has become very special to me. She is a Twilight FANatic in the true sense of the word. We purchased our tickets for the midnight showing of Breaking Dawn weeks ago and have been counting down the days. I ran thru several different ideas before I found these tutorials on www.sew4home.com.

I realized that this would make a awesome gift set. I then found the most perfect, Twilight-inspired fabric. It came out so SO much better than I could have imagined. See for yourself.....

She's gonna LOVE it!!
I was so inspired by my accomplishment, that I started another set for my best friend. I texted her to ask her favorite colors - that was all. She responded : light blue, green, and purple. This is what I have so far :

I want one for myself now. :D
Shhhhhhh....don't tell either one of them. :) Hopefully neither is following my blog.
I couldn't very well stop there, right? I have previously attempted a wallet and was pretty happy with it. I carried it for a while, but soon was not feeling it. I found a great pattern from Keyka Lou (look her up, she's great) and made this :
Pretty, no? I love that it has a duplicate check divider
I have a couple more ideas floating and patterns ready for tackling. In light of all this sudden motivation, I have revamped by Etsy store. Check it out. :)
